Any healthcare providers that work in emergency pediatric situations must be PALS certified with the American Heart Association. PALS stands for Pediatric Advanced Life Support. A typical PALS class is usually given over 2 days, however, some training sites offer a one-day class such as CPR Nashville. All the typical skills associated with an emergency crisis will be taught in this course. These skills checks include abnormal ECG rhythms, emergency pharmacology, rescue breathing, proper chest compression, etc. This is also taught in ACLS classes, but of course, in a PALS class, they are adjusted for infants and children. ACLS classes provide emergency training for adults.

One major difference in what will be learned in a PALS class is how to use a Broselow Pediatric Emergency Tape. This very often is just called a Broselow Tape. This instrument is a color-coded tape that is used for pediatric emergencies.

In this video, please watch this AHA instructor explain exactly how to use a Broselow tape in a PALS class.
